Director Karyn Kusama's film centering
on women boxers is not only remarkable for revealing in vivid
detail a little seen aspect of the sports world, but for bringing
to light the talent of lead actress Michelle Rodriguez as Diana.
Shot documentary style, Kusama's camera becomes part of the story's
kinetic energy as we take in the sights and sounds of Diana's
environment. Though most films of this type often depict boxing
as a dead-end, Kusama brings heroism back to the art of boxing
by taking a completely different slant. Highly recommended.
